Eligibility

How does eligibility work?

Who is automatically covered?

If you are a student taking an eligible course, you are automatically enrolled in the health and wellness plan.

Who is not automatically covered?

If you are taking an eligible course you will see the health plan on your tuition statement or your Bear Tracks account. Your family members, such as your spouse, common-law partner, or dependent children, are eligible to enroll at the start of the coverage period for an additional fee.

Who is not eligible for coverage?

Students who are not taking the required course load or are not members of the Graduate Students’ Association University of Alberta are not eligible.

Manage your plan

Are you planning to make any of these changes?

During the change of coverage period, you can update your school's default enrollment by filling out the corresponding form to opt out, add family members by enroll dependents, or opt (back) in, if you previously opted out and want to re-enroll.

If you enroll in the fall semester, your benefits coverage will start on September 1st and continue until August 31st. For the winter semester, the coverage begins on January 1st and continues until August 31st. You can find more information about the change of coverage period here.
